Formula Collection for Brighton Their World - September 2011

Carole Batten has a great love for babies, especially babies in need.  For the second year in a row, Carole asked First Christian Church Kernersville Campus to help her collect baby formula and monetary donations for formula and diapers which were to be given to Brighton Their World.  Laura and Tymm Hoffman are the founders of this non-profit and see that all donations are delivered free of charge to orphanages in great need in third world countries.  Laura and daughters, Meron and Mebrate, who were born in Ethiopia, came to FCCM to collect the donations.

Some formula stayed in our local communities and some went to the FCCM Food Pantry.

Please watch this blog for announcements of further formula collections.  Thank you, Carole and Brighton Their World for making this service project possible.

Second Orphan Care Project- Mountain Mission School

Mountain Mission School in Grundy, Va has a long history of providing a home and education to at-risk children.  Being familiar with this school for a long time, the Orphan Care Ministry contacted them asking  about their needs.  Their response was a request for school supplies.

Pamella Loy headed up this project and invited all of FCCM to bring school supplies every Sunday during August. In September the Single Sisters and Friends teamed up with the Orphan Care Ministry and made the bus trip to the school to deliver all the supplies.  We were quite impressed by the school campus.

We were invited to join the students for a brunch that was delicious.  We were able to mingle among the elementary, middle and high school students and learn a bit about some of them.  The students were a real pleasure to get to know.  They were friendly, polite, and welcoming.

Following our brunch, we headed back to the bus to unload the supplies which were pretty much stacked to the ceiling in the storage compartment.

David Lilley and one of his buddies started to unload the supplies when some of the older MMS students offered their assistance.  We were often thanked and even thanked again for bringing box after box of supplies.  How many of our own children are thrilled with notebook paper, pencils and such things?

We toured the school including some of their dorm rooms and we talked and laughed with students and faculty.

We chatted with a group of girls who shared their dreams and hopes for the future with us.  The girls in this picture are from Ethiopia.

We were greatly blessed to be a tiny part of this ministry that provides for children who need so much.   We hope to do another project for Mountain Mission School in 2012.  Watch this blog for details.

Orphan Care Ministry's First Project- July 2011

We teamed up with the Single Sisters and Friends of First Christian Church last summer when we had an opportunity to send shoes to the Gift
of God Orphanage in Haiti with no shipping charges.  In one afternoon, the Sisters purchased a lot of shoes which were quickly given to friends traveling to Haiti on a mission trip.   Shoes for the feet of orphans - what a blessing it was for us to share in this act of love.

Thank you, Single Sisters and Friends, for your love and for your quick action when the need was announced!

Who will answer the call of the orphan?

Welcome to the blog of the Orphan Care Ministry of First Christian Church in Kernersville and High Point, NC.

During the last several months, the Lord has placed on our hearts a great love and concern for orphans.  With 147 million orphans around the world and the Lord's own special love for the fatherless, we have been led to show the love of Christ by assisting orphans in our local communities, those in our own nation and those who live in other countries around the world.

With James 1:27 ringing in our ears, we will be providing opportunities to work for, love on and get involved with the fatherless and the orphan.  Follow our blog as we tell stories of
adoption and foster care and as we offer opportunities to participate in service projects and mission trips.

Want to get involved?  Send comments and questions to this blog or email us at orphancarefccm@earthlink.net   We may not be able to change the world but together we can bring change to the lives of  orphans who need us.  Will YOU answer the call?
